The Auteursfestival: Where the Power of Words Comes to Life

1. A New Chapter in Dutch Literature

A fresh wind is blowing through the Dutch literary world. The Auteursfestival, founded by Ayşe Yazılıtaş, will open its gates on 1 and 2 November 2025 at the historic Slot Loevestein castle. The event brings together over a hundred authors and hundreds of readers for two unforgettable days of inspiration, creativity, and connection.

2. The Founder: Ayşe Yazılıtaş

As a relationship therapist, publisher, and author, Ayşe Yazılıtaş has spent years working with people’s stories — both in therapy rooms and on paper. With the Auteursfestival, she aims to give those stories a shared stage:

“Every writer carries a world within,” she says. “This festival is where those worlds finally meet.”

Her vision is to create not just an event, but a community — a place where writers are seen, supported, and celebrated.

3. The Technical Coordinator: Adem Özbay

Behind the festival’s seamless organization stands Adem Özbay, its technical coordinator and co-organizer. With a background as a writer, creative trainer, and systems expert, Özbay ensures that every detail — from logistics to digital visibility — works in harmony.

“Our goal isn’t to build a marketplace,” he explains. “It’s to create an experience — one that connects heart, mind, and story.”

4. A Historic Stage: Slot Loevestein

Built in the 14th century, Slot Loevestein is one of the Netherlands’ most symbolic castles. Known as the place where philosopher Hugo de Groot escaped in a book chest, it has long represented the triumph of free thought. That makes it the perfect home for a festival celebrating the freedom of expression.

5. The Theme: ‘The Power of the Word’

The festival’s guiding theme, De kracht van het woord, emphasizes how language unites, heals, and transforms. Through talks, readings, and creative sessions, participants explore how stories can bridge generations and cultures.

6. A Hundred Authors, Infinite Voices

Over 100 authors from the Netherlands, Belgium, Turkey, and beyond will present their work — from poetry to prose, fiction to philosophy. Visitors can join intimate talks, attend workshops, and have books signed by their favorite writers.

7. A Program Beyond the Page

Auteursfestival is designed as a multi-sensory experience. Visitors will find:

  • Creative writing workshops and storytelling labs
  • Author panels and readings in Dutch, English, and Turkish
  • Children’s programs that spark imagination
  • Music, art, and culinary corners that enrich the castle’s atmosphere

8. For Readers: A Living Story

Readers will be able to walk among the authors, listen to them speak about their creative journeys, and discover new voices in one of the Netherlands’ most breathtaking historic sites.

9. For Writers: A Platform of Growth

For authors, the festival is more than an event — it’s a professional opportunity. Participants receive pre-event promotion, professional photography, and a chance to build lasting connections within the literary field.

10. A Vision for the Future

Though this is its first edition, the Auteursfestival aims to grow into an international tradition, connecting European and Turkish literary communities. Future editions may travel to other castles and cultural landmarks, expanding its network of creative collaboration.
