10 Stages of Your Child’s Development from Birth to Adolescence

Eye contact, which is one of the communication methods of babies, is always important for every individual, and the look of the mother in babies, especially during breastfeeding, can show the world as a positive or a place to be worried about. Crying is one of the most important communication methods in the beginning.

Laughter is a reflex for babies in the first few weeks. However, the 4-month-old baby starts to laugh at his acquaintances and to be anxious towards others.

Learns to wait in line while communicating. You wait while he makes those noises, then he/she waits for you to make sounds like “low”. Thus, he learns to wait in line in communication. This learning will be valid in communication that he will establish throughout his life.

Uses gestures: Learns to wave and point out things that interest him before the age of one. You have to develop a sensory acuity that you use your five senses or even your sixth sense to understand what your baby means. So you can understand what he means even though he is not speaking.

0-2 year old baby; develops a symbiosis with the mother (the caregiver) to learn about nutrition, physical care, and ways of making an impact. In this process, the baby must learn to control things, to stand up to them, and to nourish themselves, and end up living together. The child who has completed toilet training, can eat on his own, and tries to put on his clothes, although he is dependent in many ways, he is taking firm steps towards independence.

By the age of 2-7, the child must learn to take into consideration  the feelings of others and to make the appropriate timing to speak and ask questions. During this period, the child should learn that disagreements are normal. In this process, the child develops love for others. He learns to share his / her feelings and things with others.

Parents of children aged 7-12 should be able to develop an appropriate attitude towards changes, differentiation and independence in their children. At this age, your children develop more advanced communications and interactions while developing their relationships with their peers. Meeting, mutual conversation, considering the feelings of the other person, interpreting non-verbal communication cues, making jokes,

Children between the ages of 12-16 should learn to be half child and half adult, and develop an appropriate sexual identity and self image. The child must acquire a coherent sense of identity in order to be able to establish satisfactorily solid relationships in the future. Due to the many roles he assumed during this period, he may sometimes get stressed because he cannot meet the demands and may experience identity confusion. Then, he may have trouble relating to others. He also finds it difficult to make consistent plans for the future and work towards those plans, as it will be difficult to set and strive for a goal without a clear idea of who he is.

Since adolescence is an important period to prepare for adult life; It may require large investment in goal setting, planning and work. Children should develop such an opinion during this period that they should accept the ability to start joint business with others. Help your child set an attitude at this stage. You can use your coaching skills for this. This attitude should generally be in the direction of curiosity and interest. Curiosity is essential to learning. It should develop an attitude that it is healthy to have curiosity and interest in a body that is itself changeable. This is an attitude that the individual will develop both for himself/herself and for his/her peers.
